The image on the right shows fibrinogen deposits (red areas) that have accumulated in the white adipose tissue of a mouse fed a 60 percent high-fat diet. The image on the left is tissue from a control mouse on a regular diet. Researchers report in the Journal of Clinical Investigation they uncovered a previously unknown molecular link in the body that drives obesity and inflammation, which are linked to cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease and several cancers.
