Scripps Research Professor Patrick Griffin, PhD, of Jupiter, Florida, co-chairman of the Department of Molecular Medicine, used hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry technology to discover how RIG-I mutations lead to a failure of discrimination between self and viral RNA. This discovery could lead to new antiviral drugs and treatment targets for a variety of autoimmune diseases.
