Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2) was originally discovered in fruit flies as a transcriptional repressor. Jarid2, a component of the PRC2 complex, does not share the characteristics of a core member of PRC2 and occasionally activates gene expression. Overexpressed Jarid2 is shown in red and GFP expression in green marks the posterior domain where Jarid2 is expressed. Cell nuclei are shown in blue.
