New View of Unglaciated Landscapes (VIDEO)
Caption
University of Oregon research in the Oregon Coast Range, 40 miles from Eugene, has found evidence that the region, which was untouched by glaciers in the last ice age, had a frosty and grassy climate 25,000 years ago. That discovery, which has prompted a fresh look at unglaciated regions in other North American locations, comes from a 50,000-year record of sediment that has accumulated in the valley since a massive landslide. UO geologist Josh Roering describes his lab's overall research and what the new findings mean.
