Cat on a Hot Treadmill (VIDEO)
Caption
In studying the efficiency of animal gaits, Duke's Daniel Schmitt has discovered that a domestic cat's stride is decidedly inefficient, particularly when it is stalking. Whereas a dog can recover about 70 percent of the energy of each stride by converting potential energy to kinetics, the cat can only convert about 40 percent.
