Today the University of Illinois announces an additional $13 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support Realizing Increased Photosynthetic Efficiency, an international research project led by Director Stephen Long (right) and Deputy Director Donald Ort (left) to enhance the photosynthetic productivity and yield of key food crops including rice, cassava, cowpea, and soybeans (pictured) to benefit farmers worldwide. The now $58-million project is also supported by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) and the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID).
