Answering a Long-Standing Question (IMAGE) DOE/SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory Caption Stanford University scientists thought a seemingly empty area at one end of the Caulobacter bacterium might hold two proteins involved in cell division. By labeling the proteins with fluorescent tags and then imaging those same samples with cryoelectron tomography, they were able to confirm this location and show exactly how the proteins were arranged.
