This figure shows neurons (which have been colored) and their extensions in the brain tissue of a mouse. The thin 'wires' in the lower part of the image are so-called axons. They transmit signals from one neuron to the next. DZNE researchers have identified a protein that regulates the growth of these extensions. The findings are published in Current Biology.
