A. The first panel shows the relative levels of protein synthesis in cells from healthy donors compared to those from two classes of Parkinson's patients; those carrying a gain of function LRRK2-G2019S mutation and sporadic cases, the most common form which is not directly inherited. Protein synthesis was reduced in both groups. B. In dopamine producing nerve cells treated with the pesticide rotenone, neuritic protrusions die back and protein synthesis is reduced. This is rescued by a LRRK2 inhibitor drug.
