Scientists build microporous MOF traps for mitigating toxic gases (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers studied a metal-organic framework (MOF) material used to trap and prevent toxic gas molecules from escaping into the atmosphere. The glowing effect represents a pollutant-free MOF. Once toxins contact the MOF, its luminescence is switched off, making it a useful sensor for harmful gases. The novel material is being considered for use in acid-gas sequestration and in sensor technologies to mitigate the harmful effects of NO2, SO2, and similar toxins.
