Right frame shows the flare in extreme ultraviolet (yellow) on September 10, 2017, and location where most of these accelerated electrons were detected (blue). Left frame displays the distributions of the thermal (red) and accelerated (blue) electrons derived from the microwave data, showing that almost all thermal electrons in a large ‘cusp’ region above the flare arcade (denoted by white contours) disappeared on the map as they were accelerated to many times their original thermal energy.
