Sketches of the three hypotheses of the electronic decay mechanism of the photoexcited uracil. The long trajectory hypothesis assumes that the uracil relaxes into minimum energy geometry in the S2 state and then decays to S1 state in several picoseconds. The short trajectory hypothesis assumes that the uracil arrives at S1 in about 70 femtoseconds. The intermediate trajectory hypothesis assumes that part of the uracil evolves to S0 state within about 0.7 picosecond.
