CopperDeficiencyResults (IMAGE)
Caption
Images taken at Argonne’s Advanced Photon Source show the presence or absence of copper (Cu) in varying conditions. The images labeled “P” show the presence of phosphorus, which is used to identify the cell body and nucleus. In section A at left, cells treated with elesclomol (ES-Cu) show an increase in copper compared to treatment with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). In section B, when protein FDX1 is disabled, the elesclomol treatment is far less effective at increasing copper.
