self-folding electrodes for small-nerve interfacing (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers have developed flexible electrodes produced with 4D printing technology. On contact with moisture, they automatically fold and wrap themselves around thin nerves. Doctoral candidate Lukas Hiendlmeier while processing the electrodes. For the conductive structures, a thin layer of gold is deposited on the 3D printed substrate under high vacuum. In the back: Laser system for structuring.
