When scientists shone light on the front edge of the cell, indicated by a white circle, PLEKHG3 (bright white) retracted and re-positioned to create a different polarity and a new front edge for the cell within 30 minutes. This was possible thanks to an optogenetic technique called LARIAT, developed by the same research group.
