The authors used optical endomicroscopy (OEM) to image Gram-negative bacteria expressing a green fluorescent molecule in the lungs of sheep. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 24, 2018, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by A.R. Akram at University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, UK; and colleagues was titled, "In situ identification of Gram-negative bacteria in human lungs using a topical fluorescent peptide targeting lipid A."
