Healthy Mouse Hippocampus (image) University of Tokyo Share Print E-Mail Caption Researchers at the University of Tokyo have studied how exercise can change the structure of mouse brains modeling autism spectrum disorder. Researchers specifically looked at connections between neurons in the hippocampus, seen in the fluorescent microscopy image above. Blue marks the nuclei of cells (where DNA is stored), green marks the pre-synaptic portion of mossy fibers in the hippocampus, and red marks post-synaptic portions of other neurons.
