The older a person with COVID-19 is, the higher the frequency of T-helper cells which react to the virus. However, fewer and fewer of these cells produce the antiviral messenger 'interferon gamma' (IFN?). The same correlation exists between T-helper cell production and the severity of underlying medical conditions.
