Since the Late Cretaceous, lithosphere extension was induced by the subduction of the western Pacific or Philippine plate. The Dabie and Sulu orogens contain the largest ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt in the world as a result of the convergence between the North and South China blocks during the Late Paleozoic-Triassic.
