Gustavo Nascimento named winner of the 2024 IADR Distinguished Scientist Young Investigator Award

Alexandria, VA, USA – The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) has announced Gustavo Nascimento as the 2024 IADR Distinguished Scientist Young Investigator Award. Nascimento, from National Dental Research Institute Singapore, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 102nd General Session of the IADR, which was held in conjunction with the 53rd Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans, LA, USA.

Nascimento is Associate Professor of Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School and Principal Investigator of the National Dental Research Institute and National Dental Centre Singapore. He earned his DDS from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil and started his studies on periodontal epidemiology at the Faculty of Dentistry at the Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil, where he completed his PhD dissertation.

His research was furthered at the Section for Periodontology, Department of Dentistry and Oral Health at Aarhus University, Denmark, as a postdoctoral researcher and then an Associate Professor. Nascimento has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles, serves as an editorial board member for several international journals, including the Journal of Dental Research. He is also the recipient of several awards, including the IADR Centennial Emerging Leaders Award.

The IADR Young Investigator Award supported by P&G Professional Oral Health, Crest + Oral-B aims to stimulate basic research in all dental research disciplines. It is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and one of the highest honors bestowed by the IADR. The winner is asked to serve a two-year term on the IADR Board of Directors commencing at the conclusion of the General Session where the award was received.
