X-Ray Laser Pulses Reveal Key Parasite Enzyme (14 of 15)

image: An X-ray diffraction pattern of a single microcrystal of Trypanosoma brucei cathepsin B captured using a 40 femtosecond pulse from an X-ray free-electron laser. Almost 200,000 patterns like this were analyzed to obtain the molecular structure of the enzyme. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 29, 2012, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Lars Redecke at the University of Hamburg in Hamburg, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Natively Inhibited Trypanosoma brucei Cathepsin B Structure Determined Using an X-ray Laser." view more
