Immunotherapy after bladder cancer surgery shows excellent cancer-free survival rates
Reports and Proceedings
Immunotherapy after surgery helped reduce cancer recurrence in patients with urothelial cancer of the bladder or other sites in the urinary tract that had invaded the muscle and therefore posed a high risk for recurrence, according to clinical trial results presented at the American Urological Association (AUA) annual meeting in May.
A nurse-led blood pressure program that incorporated education and support from other health care experts improved high blood pressure management among Black and Hispanic adults in a targeted blood pressure treatment program in the Bronx. The initiative, which integrated regular blood pressure clinic visits and personalized follow-up, improved participants’ control of high blood pressure and resulted in fewer clinic visits to maintain blood pressure targets.
Young adults (ages 18 to 44 years) diagnosed with prediabetes were more likely to be hospitalized for heart attack than those without prediabetes, according to a review of U.S. health records in 2018. Among the young adults who were hospitalized for heart attack, prediabetes did not appear to impact their risks for other major cardiovascular events, such as cardiac arrest or stroke. The researchers noted more aggressive management of prediabetes may help reduce the risk of heart attacks in young adults.
Gaze aversion, lack of emotional expression, repetitive body movements, or speaking in monologue tone can sway people’s judgement of another’s credibility and honesty – notably in the judicial and police system. However, Flinders University psychology researchers warn these behaviours are also common in certain mental health and developmental conditions, making some individuals vulnerable to negative treatment in forensic settings.
Researchers in Israel have shown that a new machine-learning tool can speed up the diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) by up to 4 years,1 potentially preventing irreversible joint damage and deteriorating function for sufferers. The study retrospectively researched and analysed the medical database of Israel’s second largest health medical organization with over 2.5 million members. PredictAI™ analysed the medical records of over 2000 confirmed PsA patients in order to train the algorithm which was then tested on a separate group of confirmed PsA patients and accurately identified 32-51% of them, one to 4 years prior to a clinician’s diagnosis.1
