NIH/National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Anniversary Lecture will be held on Friday, November 7, 1997, at 10 a.m. in Lister Hill Auditorium, NIH, Bethesda, MD.

The lecture, entitled "How the Brain Maintains Balance: New Insights into Vestibular Compensation," will be presented by Dr. Carey D. Balaban, Associate Professor of Otolaryngology and Neurobiology, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh. He will discuss the results of studies which suggest that circuit-specific alterations in vestibulo-cerebellar protein kinase C expression may be an early biochemical signal for vestibular compensation.
