In an education and debate paper in this week's BMJ, Dr Vivienne Nathanson recounts her recent visit to the minefields of Cambodia and recalls some of the scenes that she witnessed. She juxtaposes the positive images of the excellent rehabilitation work carried out by international agencies, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, and mine clearance groups, such as the Mines Advisory Group with the desperate realities of a struggling healthcare system.

Dr Nathanson calls upon the international community to donate its long term commitment to the demining and rehabilitation process for a people so tragically in need.
