American Museum of Natural History and Hastings Center Co-host Conference on Restoring Wolf Populations in the Adirondacks October 21-23 in the Museum's Linder Theater
In response to the 1996 proposal by conservationists to restore the eastern timber wolf to New York's Adirondack State Park, the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation at the American Museum of Natural History and the Hastings Center, a research and education institute for bioethics, will host a conference to explore the biological, political, and ethical dimensions of this proposal. The conference will take place October 21-23,1998, starting at 8:00 a.m.
The conference will feature keynote addresses by the Museum's Deparment of Invertebrates Curator Niles Eldredge, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne's Mary Midgley, and Joseph Sax of University of California at Berkeley. Panel discussions will focus on: the long-term biological implications of wolf restoration to the Adirondacks; philosophical and theological analyses of obligations to future generations; political, legal, and policy aspects of wolf restoration; stakeholders' interests, and lessons learned from previous wolf recovery programs.
Registration fees are: $50 for members of the American Museum of Natural History and the Hastings Center, $60 for non-members. Box Lunches are available: $12 each, please specify which day/s.
