Ground-breaking researcher will deliver first lecture in the WISE 2000 Seminar Series at Syracuse University

The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) 2000 Seminar Series at Syracuse University kicks off March 22 with pioneering researcher Dr. Ruzena Bajcsy.

Bajcsy, the National Science Foundation director for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE), is a ground-breaking researcher in machine perception, robotics and artificial intelligence. She will speak on "Information Technology: Three Variations on a Theme" at 7 p.m. in the Killian Room, Room 500 in the Hall of Languages at Syracuse University.

Bajcsy will also meet with students from Fowler High School in Syracuse and women graduate students in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) on March 23. Bajcsy is used to dealing with such students as a professor in both the Computer and Information Science Department and the Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics Department at the University of Pennsylvania.

Bajcsy has done seminal research in the areas of human-centered computer control, cognitive science, robotics, computerized radiological/medical image processing and artificial vision. She is highly regarded not only for her significant research contributions but also for her leadership in the creation of a world-class robotics lab, recognized worldwide as a premiere research center.
