U.S. Navy, Newport News Shipbuilding, and Electric Boat

Meeting Announcement

Office of Naval Research

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) and General Dynamics' Electric Boat (EB) in conjunction with the U.S. Navy will hold an industry forum to address future electric actuator technology. Representatives from industry and academia are invited to attend to discuss state-of-the-art and future concepts. The the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) will sponsor the forum to be held November 15 and 16 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Philadelphia, Pa.

The focus of this forum will be the Navy's future performance objectives and advanced electric actuator technologies to achieve the Navy's vision of an all-electric ship. Eliminating hydraulics and compressed air will lead to cleaner, quieter, un-interruptible and re-configurable electric power systems.

Forum administrative information, registration forms and guidance for making presentations and/or displays are available on both the NNS and EB corporate websites at the following addresses: www.nns.com or www.gdeb.com. Technical information, including current Navy shipboard performance, noise and shock requirements, can also be found on the corporate websites. This technical information is considered a baseline and is provided for informational purposes only. It is expected that future actuators capable of meeting submarine acoustic objectives in external applications will be particularly challenging.
