“EMBO recognises the huge efforts that some scientists make to communicate their science to the public while remaining active in research,” says Andrew Moore, Manager for EMBO’s Science and Society Programme. “Communicating successfully with a non-scientific audience is very different from talking to colleagues: It is a skill that needs to be promoted.”
There are no limitations to the form of communication. The jury particularly looks for imaginative and original works. These can include communication via printed and electronic media, Radio, Television, out-reach, schools projects, talks in public and other special initiatives.
There is one winning application annually. A prize of Euro 5.000 and a silver medal will be awarded on November 9, 2002 during European Science and Technology Week as part of the EMBL/EMBO joint conference on Science & Society in Heidelberg.
