Northwestern Memorial Hospital specialties rank among 'America's Best'

U.S. News & World Report ranks 11 Northwestern Memorial specialties in annual 'Best Hospitals' survey

Northwestern Memorial Hospital increased its number of specialties nationally ranked and appears in the majority of categories surveyed in the annual "America's Best Hospitals" issue of U.S. News & World Report.

The 2002 survey of more than 6,000 hospitals across the country provides ratings for 17 separate clinical categories. Northwestern Memorial is included among the top 50 hospitals in 11 of the 17 categories, including: gynecology (No. 13), endocrinology (No. 13), urology (No. 19), neurology/neurosurgery (No. 22), orthopaedics (No. 22), otolaryngology (No. 24), geriatrics (No. 30), cancer (No. 33), rheumatology (No. 35), gastroenterology (No. 41), nephrology (No. 42).

In five specialties – endocrinology, gynecology, neurology/neurosurgery, otolaryngology and urology – Northwestern Memorial is the highest ranked Chicago area hospital. Two of the 11 Northwestern Memorial specialties ranked, cancer and gastroenterology, are new additions from last year's list of the nation's elite programs.
