Bacterial eradication in the treatment of otitis media

Otitis media (middle-ear infection) is a common infectious disease of early childhood; an estimated 20 million cases occur in the USA annually. This review assesses the impact of antibacterial treatment, commenting on how clinicians may become mislead by drug treatment as otitis media often resolves naturally within a few days of infection; the growing problem of widespread antibiotic resistance is also limiting the effectiveness of many therapeutic treatments for the disorder.

Eradication of Anopheles gambiae from Brazil: lessons for malaria control in Africa?

This review calls for the re-introduction of strategies to target the larvael stage of the anopheles mosquito as part of the global 'Roll Back Malaria' campaign.
