Book Announcement

American Psychoanalytic Association

New York, NY- The American Psychoanalytic Association is pleased to announce the publication of a helpful new guide, "All About Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis", developed especially for use by parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals.

This easy to use booklet, complete with three case examples (details changed to protect privacy), explains how psychoanalysis can help children and adolescents remove obstacles to the development of their skills and competencies so they can become more caring, productive, and creative. " We hope that this booklet can help parents and teachers understand how a child and adolescent psychoanalyst can be helpful to them and their children," remarked editor Leon Hoffman, M.D.

The "Evaluation" section provides guidelines for determining when psychoanalysis is the best treatment as well as how psychoanalysts can help parents and teachers understand and address troubling issues, and consider the different treatment options.

The Q & A section answers the commonly asked questions about psychoanalytic treatment for children and adolescents, including:

  • What is the difference between psychoanalysis and other forms of psychotherapy?
  • Should my child be on medication or in psychoanalysis?
  • Are there any scientific studies that demonstrate the success of child psychoanalysis?

The brochure may be ordered online at http://store.yahoo.com/americanpsych/allabchandad.html at $2.00 per copy.

Discounted prices for more than 50 copies are available. Press may request a hard copy or pdf file of the brochure by emailing djeffries@apsa.org.
