Grant and Award Announcement

International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research

Honolulu, Hawaii...The 2004 Research in Oral Biology Award will be presented today to Dr. Carolyn Gibson, a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine since 1986. The award recognizes Dr. Gibson's outstanding contribution to our understanding of the molecular and genetic basis for development of the dentition that has unified clinical observations with fundamental knowledge of gene function.

Dr. Gibson has published widely in a variety of prestigious dental, medical, and scientific journals, including PNAS, Journal of Biological Chemistry, DNA and Cell Biology, and the Journal of Dental Research (JDR), receiving the 2002 AADR William J. Gies Award for best paper (as co-author) in the JDR. She has also long been committed to serving on numerous research review bodies at NIDCR and on international advisory committees.

Dr. Gibson received her award during the Opening Ceremonies of the 82nd General Session of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), convening at the Hawaii Convention Center. The IADR Research in Oral Biology Distinguished Scientist Award, sponsored since its inception by the Church & Dwight Company, Inc., is designed to recognize outstanding research in the field of oral biology other than in those areas already recognized by specific awards. It is one of 15 Distinguished Scientist Awards bestowed annually by the IADR, representing the Association's highest honor.
