IAMP, which was created in May 2000, seeks to improve global health, especially among the world's poorest nations; build scientific capacity for addressing health-related issues; and provide independent scientific advice to national governments and international bodies for the promotion of health science and health care policy.
IAMP is currently assembling the second edition of Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries, a comparative cost-effectiveness study examining the full range of public health options available to developing countries in addressing their most critical health needs. The first volume was published in 2002 by Oxford University Press. The second volume is being funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
IAMP will be located adjacent to the InterAcademy Panel on International Issues (IAP), an association of 90 science academies worldwide, which was also established in October 1993. Both organizations will operate under the administrative umbrella of TWAS in Trieste.
