The Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wiley-VCH announced today the signing of an agreement to publish the Institute's flagship journal, Chinese Journal of Chemistry, starting in January 2005.

Within this partnership, SIOC and Wiley-VCH will be joint owners, and SIOC will continue to provide its editorial expertise for the journal, which is administrated by the Chinese Chemical Society. In turn, Wiley-VCH will bring its publishing expertise and be responsible for marketing and distributing the Chinese Journal of Chemistry all over the world, apart from in mainland China. This also includes online publication via Wiley InterScience (http://www.interscience.wiley.com).

SIOC Executive Director Biao Jiang commented, "This partnership will promote dialog among all national chemistry communities and will increase the international reach and importance of the Chinese Journal of Chemistry." Shengming Ma, Director of the Editorial Office, added, "I'm particularly excited because the cooperation will put the journal in an international environment, which will surely bring the journal to a new level. This effort will also enhance services for both readers and authors. The new online platform will improve searchability and reference linking, and will allow the even timelier publication of significant research. I very much appreciate that our journal will be available on the same platform as other top journals, such as Angewandte Chemie and Chemistry – A European Journal."

According to Manfred Antoni, Managing Director at Wiley-VCH, both the chemical community in China as well as that in the rest of the world will benefit: "We are pleased that the SIOC has chosen Wiley-VCH as its publishing partner. This is our first Chinese-German partnership, and it will advance Wiley-VCH's significant presence in chemistry publishing as well as its expertise as a society publisher, enhance its ability to serve the chemistry community, and enrich the Wiley InterScience service."
