This pivotal Phase III study will provide answers to questions about the properties of a new drug in the treatment of cognitive impairment in Schizophrenia. Cogtest will be used to assess a number of areas of cognitive function in patients including tests of social cognition, emotional recognition and verbal ability. These are domains unique to the Cogtest library of tests.

Referring to Cogtest's expert consulting service, Lundbeck's Head of Clinical Psychosis, Dr Raimund Buller said: "Cogtest have been very helpful, responsive to our needs, and have done a great job in refining the study design and protocol. The experience and expertise of the Cogtest team have been truly appreciated. With their help we were able to finalise the study protocol in a remarkably short time period." Cogtest's CEO, Professor Tonmoy Sharma said: "We are delighted to be working with Lundbeck on this study. Cognitive functioning is increasingly becoming recognised as the major factor in determining quality of life in schizophrenia. Cognition is what makes us human. It refers to our mental processes: the process of knowing, including aspects such as awareness, perception, reasoning, and judgment. Our cognitive processes allow us to carry out normal daily activities as well as allowing us to recall memories, concentrate, learn, communicate, solve problems and make decisions."

He added: "We are pleased to provide Lundbeck with our specialist consulting services covering study design and test selection. Our unique electronic data-capture system means that we can provide Lundbeck with data lock as early as 48 hours after last patient visit. In addition our web-based reporting system allows for viewing of data in 'near' real time."
