About The Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. Entrepreneur Award

The Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. Entrepreneur Award is given to an individual who embodies the classic American spirit. The award recognizes a person with a dream and the tenacity to overcome obstacles in the pursuit of his or her objective; one who has achieved recognized leadership by virtue of his or her raw talent and determination; and who is an achiever willing to take risks and assume responsibilities.

Furthermore, the award applauds the innovator whose accomplishments have distinguished him or her in a particular field. Stevens Institute of Technology has encouraged this entrepreneurial spirit in its students since its founding in 1870. Indeed, the very founders of the university, the Stevens family, were noted entrepreneurs in their own time. Through the legacy they created, their classic American spirit has been carried forward to the greater benefit of society.

This special award is named for an extraordinary friend of Stevens. Charles V. Carrying forward his legacy and the tradition of an innovative university, Stevens Institute of Technology plans from time to time to present The Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. Entrepreneur Award to distinguished entrepreneurs drawn from the community at large.
