Scoloveno, an associate professor, was one of 12 nurses selected to receive this award by the Nursing Merit Award Advisory Committee of the NJDHSS. The awards are presented to nurses for their accomplishments and service in the areas of patient care, nurse education, nursing research and administration.
"Mary Ann is a superb teacher and she has touched the lives of many of our students," said Felissa R. Lashley, dean and professor at the College of Nursing at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. "Our faculty members and students would agree that this is an award well deserved."
"I was thrilled and very happy when I received an award letter from the Department of Health and Senior Services," said Scoloveno, who recently received a prestigious Rutgers University Warren I. Sussman award for teaching excellence. "Winning the Sussman Award and the 2005 Governor's Merit Award in one year is an experience I will never forget. I love teaching pediatric nursing and my greatest reward is seeing my students mature and flourish in the educational and working environment."
Scoloveno, a Bridgewater, N.J. resident, has taught at Rutgers College of Nursing since 1971. She is a recipient of many awards including Rutgers College of Nursing Educational Opportunity Fund Program Teacher of the Year in 2004, 2003 and 1995, New Jersey League for Nursing's Nurse Recognition award in 1998, Seton Hall University's Margaret C. Haley Distinguished Alumni award in 1985, and Somerset County College's Outstanding Visiting Lecturer in 1980.
Scoloveno earned her Ed.D at Rutgers Graduate School of Education and her MEd at Columbia University's Teachers College. She completed her baccalaureate degree at Seton Hall University College of Nursing.
From its headquarters at Rutgers Newark, Rutgers College of Nursing offers a broad range of academic programs on all three Rutgers campuses. The college offers a master's program with unique practitioner specialties and the only doctoral (Ph.D) nursing degree in New Jersey.
