Under the new partnership, Elsevier will become publisher of the Association's official journal, Ambulatory Pediatrics, the leading journal of academic general pediatrics. The first Elsevier issue of Ambulatory Pediatrics will appear in January 2006. James M. Perrin, M.D., will continue to serve as Editor. "Partnering with Elsevier will help us to expand the reach of our publication while maintaining its unique focus on multidisciplinary, whole-child health care and policy," Dr. Perrin commented.
Ambulatory Pediatrics offers a unique focus on the research and educational base of academic general pediatrics. Each bimonthly issue offers peer-reviewed original research on topics of special importance to pediatric clinicians and educators, including pediatric education, emergency medicine, child health services and health policy, and environmental issues affecting children's health.
Original research is complemented by timely reviews of primary care interventions in pediatrics as well as key papers on the methodology of research in child health and education. "To maintain a focus on the whole child, in the context of family and community, we seek to provide content from all perspectives--legislative, medical, psychological, and more," added Dr. Perrin.
Members of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association will continue to receive the print edition of Ambulatory Pediatrics. Members and subscribers will be able to access the entire contents of each issue online in HTML or PDF format. Other online features will include a comprehensive search engine, allowing users to search Ambulatory Pediatrics alone, or to include hundreds of other Elsevier journals and MEDLINE in a single query; options to sign up for e-mail alerts; and embedded links to valuable content, such as the Mosby Drug Consult database. Ambulatory Pediatrics will also be accessible through Elsevier's institutional subscription service, ScienceDirect (http://www.sciencedirect.com).
Another key upgrade will be the ability for contributors to submit manuscripts electronically via the Elsevier Editorial System (http://authors.elsevier.com), streamlining the peer review and editorial process. A special call for papers on "Insuring Children's Health Care" has been issued by the editors.
