A National Science Foundation grant to Florida Tech of $119,347 funds Dr. Richard Tankersley's project to develop an interactive statistics tutorial. The tutorial will support inquiry-based instruction in biology and ecology.

"Even with today's computers and statistical software, students still struggle with statistical analysis, interpreting the results and understanding the connections and relationships among procedures," said Tankersley. His project will be to develop a Web-based, interactive tutoring system and instructional program to improve student competency in practicing and applying statistics.

"With the software we will develop, students will spend less time learning statistical software and more time learning how scientists approach problems and how they interpret statistical results," said Tankersley.

English and Spanish versions are being developed to reach a more diverse audience. This will benefit students for whom English is a second language.
