The Government of Ontario announced key investments today in strategic research and innovation projects. This budget announcement includes an increase in its financial commitment to Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) in recognition of its accomplishments and future directions in scientific research and educational outreach. The Institute warmly welcomes this renewed commitment of $50 M from the Ministry of Research and Innovation in an established private-public partnership. Howard Burton, Executive Director of Perimeter Institute, says "…renewed investment is vital towards ensuring that the Institute can successfully compete at the highest levels of international excellence in the years to come."

Additionally, Perimeter Institute's partnership with the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo, which also received $50 M in today's announcement, is "…an unequivocal demonstration of the research potential and opportunity that exists in Waterloo Region and a strong endorsement of the global leadership position that the region has taken in the exciting new field of quantum information research" says Dr. Burton.
