International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research

Dr. Dorthe Holst, of the University of Oslo, Norway, has been named the 2006 recipient of the Behavioral Sciences & Health Services Research Award, presented by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), convening today for its 84th General Session.

Dr. Holst's research has focused on health services and epidemiology, more specifically on the financing and organization of dental services in Scandinavian countries, comparative analyses of dental care delivery systems, participation in the WHO International Collaborative Studies I and II, as well as oral health trends in Scandinavia. She has conducted research on the oral health status and public health programs among children, adolescents, older adults, persons with disabilities, and migrant populations. These areas of expertise have been invaluable in her academic supervision of doctoral students, whose dissertation topics have focused on dental service delivery, health behaviors, and oral health among various age and disability groups.

Dr. Holst, a long-time member of the IADR, has served as a European Director of the BSHSR group of IADR, and as a board member of the Scandinavian Division of IADR.

The IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Behavioral Sciences & Health Services Research is sponsored by generous funding from Sunstar Butler and is one of 15 Distinguished Scientist Awards conferred annually by the IADR, representing the highest honor the IADR can bestow.

Dr. Holst receives her award today at the Opening Ceremonies of the IADR's 84th General Session.
