Munich/The Hague: "Enabling partnerships" will be the main theme of the EPO Online Services Annual Conference, which will be held at the Lisboa Congress Center in Portugal on 4-5 October 2006.
"It is particularly appropriate that we will be presenting the EPO's innovative online services at the birthplace of the Lisbon Agenda", said Alain Pompidou President of the European Patent Office.
One of the keynote presentations will be by Alberto Alessi, who has been described as "the godfather of Italian product design", and will share his thoughts and experiences on patents and partnerships.
Ana Paula Amorim, Director of technology transfer and entrepreneurship, TecMinho, will talk about partnerships between science and industry. Effective collaboration between industry and research is vital if Europe wants to meet the Lisbon challenge of becoming the most competitive knowledge economy by 2010. Europe needs national codes of practice for managing intellectual property resulting from collaborative research. Mrs. Amorim will speak about how to maximise the exploitation of knowledge and the benefits of collaborative research.
The Conference will offer four streams, allowing participants to tailor their participation to their personal interests by choosing the workshops, seminars and presentations best suited to them. The seminars will run separately in English, French and German.
As in previous years, stream I will offer a mix of presentations on the conference theme. Speakers from industry and the EPO will share their views in the light of the recent agreement to set up a European Patent Network.
In stream II, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in practical workshops on epoline® and esp@cenet®, and to experience first-hand the technical partnerships that exist in the online world.
Stream III will feature a series of seminars hosted by EPO specialists and will focus on the formalities governing the patent granting procedure. This year the content of the seminars has been expanded to include a look at the end-to-end patent process from both the national as well as the European perspective.
New this year, stream IV will comprise a series of presentations in co-operation with the national patent offices.
The conference will be of particular interest and benefit to IP departments, patent attorneys and their administrative and support staff.
The press conference will be formally opened at 9:00 a.m. by Alain Pompidou, President of the European Patent Office.
