Hoboken, N.J. -- The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association has chosen Nickitas Georgas, a Ph.D. candidate and Senior Research Engineer at Stevens Institute of Technology's Davidson Laboratory, as the 2006 recipient of its Educational Award.
The Educational Award is given annually to an undergraduate or graduate student who, through his or her research, is furthering the state of science of coastal or riverine systems as it relates to the goals and mission of the ASBPA. Any research pertaining to coastal or riverine science is eligible for consideration.
The award will be presented Tuesday evening, Oct. 10, during an awards banquet at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa in Long Branch, N.J., where the ASBPA 2006 Fall Conference is hosted. It includes a $500 cash stipend, a free conference registration, and a one-year student membership in ASBPA. Georgas will present his paper, "An Operational Coastal Wave Forecasting Model for New Jersey and Long Island Waters" at the conference, on Oct 10. The paper will also be submitted to Shore & Beach, ASBPA's technical journal, for consideration for a future issue.
