CAMDEN -- Terry Bienstock, CEO of World Extend, LLC, is the recipient of the 2006 Arthur Armitage Distinguished Alumni Award from the Rutgers-Camden Law Alumni Association.
He previously served as executive vice president and general counsel (law and government affairs) for Comcast Cable Communications in Philadelphia.
The annual award is the top honor presented to graduates of the Rutgers University School of Law at Camden. Bienstock was recognized for "making significant contributions to the profession." The alumni selection committee also considered the following criteria when making its decision: that the recipient be highly regarded, active in civic or professional programs, and entrusted with a responsible position, in or out of the legal profession.
Bienstock is CEO of World Extend, LLC, a New Jersey-based distributor of low-cost, software-based managed secure remote access and application publishing services for the business and consumer markets. Bienstock also manages and advises other ventures relating to new media platforms, such as Video-on-Demand, digital video recorders, broadband, and mobile services.
Immediately prior to WorldExtend, Bienstock served as executive vice president and general counsel of Comcast Cable Communications, where he was responsible for significant business, legal and regulatory functions, including Video on Demand and Comcast University. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Comcast is the nation's largest cable and broadband provider. Bienstock has been an influential pioneer in the cable and media industries for more than 25 years.
Prior to his tenure at Comcast, Bienstock served as lead counsel on numerous major communications, First Amendment, and property rights cases for most of the top media and cable companies. He regularly litigated high visibility cases, from the first fully televised trial in the United States to the Noriega tapes case for CNN.
Bienstock lectures regularly and is active with several charitable, community, and educational organizations. He is a member of the Rutgers University Board of Overseers.
He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Rutgers University School of Law at Camden in 1978. He received his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
Bienstock was presented his award during a special ceremony at the Rutgers-Camden law school on Sept. 25.
He resides in Miami Beach with his wife, Carol Lang, and their son, Matthew.
Established in 1983, the alumni award is a memorial to Arthur E. Armitage Sr. who, with a group of interested citizens, founded both the South Jersey Law School in 1926 and its companion College of South Jersey in 1927. In 1950, the Camden campus became affiliated with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
