Washington, D.C. -- Linda A. Suydam, D.P.A. (Doctor of Public Administration) president of the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), is available to comment on today's release of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Monitoring the Future survey, which for the first time includes data on the non-medical use of dextromethorphan among 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students.

In addition, Dr. Harold Koplewicz, recently featured on NBC's Today Show as an expert in child and adolescent substance abuse, is available for comment. Dr. Koplewicz is founder and director of the New York University Child Study Center; chairman of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; and professor of psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine.

CHPA, the makers of over-the-counter medicines, the Partnership for a Drug-Free America and Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America are working together on a major campaign to raise awareness of and help prevent this abuse of an otherwise safe and legal product.

CHPA is the 125-year-old trade association that represents U.S. manufacturers and distributors of over-the-counter medicines and nutritional supplement products.
