Greek Academic Libraries expand agreement with Elsevier

The world's first E-Only consortia expands Elsevier portfolio for books on ScienceDirect and Referex Engineering

Business Announcement

Amsterdam, 21 February 2007 -- Elsevier announces the signing of a 2-year agreement with the Hellenic Academic Libraries Link (HEAL Link), a consortium of 57 Greek educational and research institutions expanding their Elsevier access to books on ScienceDirect and Engineering Village's reference database, Referex Engineering. The current agreement expands the existing 2005 agreement which provided HEAL Link members with full access to Scopus, ScienceDirect's eight million full-text articles and Elsevier's three million article Backfiles collection.

HEAL Link chose to expand researchers' access to include the ScienceDirect E-books collection plus over 400 full-text professional reference titles from Referex Engineering. Each delivers leading content and state-of-the-art functionality. ScienceDirect has recently announced a 4,000 title expansion for 2007 complementing its fully linked and cross-searchable electronic books and journals platform.

"As part of our strategy to provide our researchers with quality electronic resources I am pleased we have negotiated this deal with Elsevier as it further extends our portfolio of electronic materials," stated Professor Vassilios J. Papazoglou, Chairman of the HEAL-Link Consortium. "The addition of the ScienceDirect and Engineering electronic books collections’ provides our researchers with great added value. Moreover, this is another great example of success in an agreement as all parties – HEAL-Link, Elsevier, and Swets Information Services, the agent who has undertaken the Consortium’s financial administration – benefit."

"It is a continuing honor to provide the HEAL-Link libraries, one of the world's first e-only consortia, with expanded access to a wide range of Elsevier's key services and projects. We believe strongly that ScienceDirect, the Backfiles collection, Scopus and Engineering Village contribute significantly to the researcher' experience– not to mention productivity," noted Frank Vrancken Peeters, Managing Director, Academic & Government, Elsevier Science & Technology.
