The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) announced the winner of the 2007 New Investigator Award at the 2007 AIUM Annual Convention in Washington, DC. The winners were Andrej Lyshchik, for his research project, "Quantification of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-2 Expression Using Targeted Contrast-Enhanced High-Frequency Ultrasonography," and Monica Forbes, for her research project, "The Role of Inertial Cavitation in Producing Sonoporation."
The New Investigator Award is designed to encourage new clinical investigators to gain experience with performing and presenting ultrasound research early in their academic careers. The award, with a prize of $1000, is presented each year to a new investigator (resident, fellow, faculty member, or sonographer in practice fewer than 5 years) who presents the best scientific abstract. This year, Forbes and Lyshchik tied for the award and each were presented with a prize of $500.
