Renal experts will summarize important new research on the topics of cardiovascular risk in chronic kidney disease, consequences of acute kidney injury, racial and ethnic disparities of kidney disease, and anemia management in kidney disease patients, being presented during the American Society of Nephrology's 40th Annual Meeting and Scientific Exposition in San Francisco at a policy-centered news briefing on Saturday, November 3.
“We hope that by highlighting significant research that could directly impact public health in America, we can ultimately improve health outcomes,” said Jonathan Himmelfarb, MD of Maine Medical Center, Chair of ASN’s Public Policy Board and moderator of the briefing.
Following a brief introduction by Dr. Himmelfarb, Mark J. Sarnak, MD, FASN of Tufts-New England Medical Center will discuss the link between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in his briefing presentation, “The CKD - CVD Connection.” Chi-yuan Hsu, MD, MS of University of California, San Francisco will address “The Consequences of Acute Kidney Injury.” The third topic, “Race, Ethnicity in Outcomes of Patients with Kidney Disease (Health Disparities)” will be presented by Neil R. Powe, MD, MPH, MBA, FASN of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Lynda A. Szczech, MD, MSCE, FASN of Duke University Medical Center will conclude the briefing with a discussion on “The Treatment of Anemia in Kidney Disease.”
The Public Policy News Briefing will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2007 from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm in Room 236 of the Moscone Center South in San Francisco.
