New Rochelle, NY, January 17, 2008 — Genetic Alliance, an organization devoted to accelerating the translation and integration of genetic research into genetic services to advance healthcare, has named Genetic Testing as its official journal. Genetic Testing is a peer-reviewed journal published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.

“We are proud to announce our affiliation with Genetic Testing,” says Sharon Terry, President and CEO of Genetic Alliance. “Both organizations are committed to bringing all stakeholders, and the healthcare systems that serve them, timely, high-quality information.”

“Genetic testing is the first frontier for the integration of genetics into medicine. It challenges current healthcare systems and is a disruptive innovation,” Terry adds. “Genetic Testing deepens all stakeholders’ understanding of these complex issues. An alliance with Genetic Testing is a natural fit and serves our ever-widening community.”

A not-for-profit organization with a 22-year history, Genetic Alliance is a coalition of more than 600 advocacy groups serving 25 million people affected by at least 1,000 genetic conditions. The Alliance serves as a voice for individuals and families living with genetic conditions and transforms the research and services systems that are working toward solutions. Genetic Alliance focuses on advocacy in the broadest sense of the word, empowering consumers to be informed decision-makers, and fostering partnerships that enable all stakeholders to leverage each others’ resources. It supports strong leadership in the genetics community and helps to educate policymakers about social issues critical to advancing research and services.

“As we learn more about the underlying causes of disease and link this knowledge to the emerging realization that in the not too distant future good healthcare will include information about one’s genomic profile, the importance of genetic testing in clinical medicine will continue to grow,” says Kenneth I. Berns, MD, PhD, Editor-in-Chief of Genetic Testing, and Director of the University of Florida’s Genetics Institute, College of Medicine, Gainesville, FL.

Genetic Testing is an authoritative peer-reviewed journal published quarterly in print and online that reports on all aspects of genetic testing, including molecular and biochemical based tests and varied clinical situations; ethical, legal, social, and economic aspects of genetic testing; and issues concerning effective genetic counseling. Tables of contents and a free sample issue may be viewed online.
