Leading measurement training validated by National Skills Academy for Manufacturing

Business Announcement

National Physical Laboratory

The National Skills Academy for Manufacturing announces that it has validated the dimensional measurement training framework designed by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). This confirms that participants in the NPL training framework can be assured that it meets industry-recognised levels of competence designed to improve the prosperity of UK manufacturing companies.

The Skills Academy is setting the national agenda for skills in the manufacturing sector by bringing together the best existing training, content and delivery; combining it with innovative new approaches to work-based learning, and championing the result as a new approach to skills that delivers real business benefits. One of the Skills Academy’s responsibilities is to assess any organisation offering new training content and ensure that it meets nationally recognised, industry-approved levels of quality. The validation of NPL’s training framework is one of the most powerful examples of this in practice.

NPL is the UK’s National Measurement Institute - a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards, science and technology. NPL’s training framework is designed to help businesses reduce waste, increase profits and productivity through improving employees’ measurement skills. It has now been successfully validated by the Skills Academy.

Bob Gibbon, Managing Director at the Skills Academy, said:

“The National Skills Academy for Manufacturing is a safeguard against poor training content and delivery. We are a beacon of security for manufacturing employers that don’t know where to find quality training and are confused by the skills landscape. By validating training content and providers, we are showing employers the path to quality content and training delivery. NPL now has an independent guarantee that its training framework meets a recognised benchmark for quality and is aligned to the training needs identified by industry.”

Steve McQuillan, Chief Executive of the National Physical Laboratory, said:

“We want our training to be the best, and aligning with the national agenda for skills – as set by the National Skills Academy for Manufacturing – is a critical part of that. This validation means we can tell customers, with confidence, that our training content meets the needs of industry and can be considered a quality product. ”
